Progressive period care brand and creators of the innovative Tampliner, Callaly has secured a Silver Award at the fifth annual Design Intelligence Awards ceremony. Held on the 19 October 2020 at the China Design Museum in Xiangshan, Zhejiang, a jury evaluated 325 finalists from over 7000 global entries. Callaly was announced as the only British brand to receive one of the top prizes together with a 200,000 RMB (£23,000) sum for their Tampliner.
The Design Intelligence Awards seeks to identify the world's most outstanding products and designs, as well as the individual designers and the studios producing the most exceptional work. Orchestrated by China Academy of Art, China's most renowned and influential art school with a nearly 100-year history, Design Intelligence Award has grown rapidly into one of the most prestigious and popular awards programmes in the industry, Callaly informs.
Callaly set out to improve the period care industry with the launch of the Tampliner, a completely new period care product and first major new product invention since the first tampon of 90 years ago. The Tampliner is a 2-in-1 period product that combines an organic cotton tampon with an organic cotton panty-liner for extra protection against leaks and mess-free insertion removal.
Thang Vo-Ta, Founder and CEO of Callaly commented: “We're honoured to be awarded the Silver Award from the DIA for our Callaly Tampliner. It is with great pride that we saw our Tampliner featured with so many other fantastic innovations from around the world. This prestigious global award is fantastic exposure for us in China- a very important market for us beginning in 2021, where tampons are the fastest growing product category according to Euromonitor. This follows Callaly’s successful product trials with hundreds of women in Shanghai & Beijing through a leading testing agency, where 64% of those who have never used a tampon before said they would definitely/ probably buy our Tampliner once available in China.”
John Mathers, chair of DIA UK judges, co-founder British Design Fund, commented: “Our congratulations go to Callaly on their success at the Design Intelligence Awards 2020. It is fantastic to see a British designed and made product being recognised for its ingenuity and global potential on such a prestigious stage. This award is yet further confirmation of the world-leading entrepreneur and start-up community we have here in the UK, being the second year a British company has taken a top spot. These companies are the future leaders of industry - spotting opportunities, innovating and focusing on user-centred designs that provide a valuable solution.”
