TFP’s Director of Technology awarded status of Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry

Technical Fibre Products (TFP), a leading nonwoven manufacturer, has announced that the company’s Director of Technology, Nigel Walker, has been awarded the prestigious status of Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).

The designation of Fellow is a status awarded by the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK. It is the highest level of membership of the Society and is only granted to individuals who have made a major contribution to chemistry or an interface discipline.

Responsibilities

Nigel is the Director of Technology at TFP and has been responsible for the technical aspects of the business since its formation in 1986.

He leads a team of 11 graduates and postgraduates dedicated to developing & optimising innovative nonwoven materials to meet specific requirements. The team works closely with customers to fully understand their needs and develop a suitable custom nonwoven solution.

“The high standard of technical support and expertise they provide has been instrumental in establishing the company’s reputation as a leading advanced nonwoven and metal coated fibre manufacturer,” says the company.

Nigel’s achievement of Fellow status denotes a very high level of accomplishment as a professional chemist. Individuals must have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the chemical sciences or have been distinguished in the management of a chemical sciences organisation to be considered for the accolade.

Nigel is an expert in the field of nonwovens. He has authored and co-authored numerous papers relating to their application in advanced composites and is a named inventor in a number of patents in the fields of nonwovens, fire protection materials and fuel cells.

These areas represent just a few of the wide variety of applications where TFP’s materials can be used. Other key industries include aerospace, defence, wind energy and automotive.
