OceanSafe is partnering with ITA, the Institute of Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen University, in a collaboration aimed at pushing the boundaries of sustainable textile material innovation.

Together, the two teams will work to transform OceanSafe’s proprietary polymer developments into scalable, high-performing textile fibres and yarns that can seamlessly integrate into today’s textile value chains.

ITA’s role will be to experiment, test and refine these materials, making sure they meet the demands of industrial-scale production. From understanding material properties to producing multifilament yarns, fabrics and more, ITA will work to perfect key production processes such as knitting, weaving and dyeing, and finishing, ensuring that OceanSafe’s fibres and yarns perform exceptionally at every stage.

OceanSafe’s naNea materials are synthetic polymers that are already being turned into fibres, filaments and yarns with all the favourable processing and performance properties of polyester, while at the same time being circular, biodegradable, and toxin-free.

The naNea materials are also the first and only synthetic textile materials which have achieved the extremely stringent Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Certified Gold standard and certification for the biological cycle to data, for the entire product supply chains of various manufacturing partners.
