Report summary

Companies specialising in the design, manufacture and marketing of professional clothing and textiles must be prepared for the unexpected. However, they are making good progress in innovating their way through the challenges related to the transformation of their industry.

This was the core message at the 2024 edition of the Professional Clothing Industry Association Worldwide (PCIAW) Summit, Exhibition and Awards, which was held in Birmingham, UK, during November 18-20, 2024.

At the PCIAW Summit, the opening speech was given by Ed Grigg, the chairman of the PCIAW and the managing director of Incorporate wear, a leading bespoke brand of uniforms, and key themes included: transparency and product traceability; strategic autonomy and supply chain resilience; supply chain disruptions; digitalisation in the professional clothing industry; the ongoing need to tackle waste; and designing out waste.

Held alongside the PCIAW Summit 2024 was an exhibition of innovations in personal protective equipment (PPE), uniforms and workwear, and a ceremony was held to present 21 awards to companies within the industry in recognition of excellence in specific categories, such as design, manufacturing, supply and innovation. In addition, there were tours of factories of major players in the UK professional clothing industry.
