Ansell is a company based in Australia which manufactures personal protective equipment (PPE) for the health care and industrial markets. The company was established in 1905 as a rubber condom manufacturer but in 2010 it restrategised and turned its focus to the expansion of its PPE portfolio.

Since 2010, it has divested its sexual wellness businesses and carried out a series of strategic acquisitions. As a result, it has achieved an enviable position in the global market for PPE, and the company has strengthened this position further as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In particular, soaring demand for PPE across all industries enabled it to achieve a 26% increase in revenues in its 2020/21 financial year. Ansell believes that the pandemic has sensitised consumers to the importance of safety and drawn attention to the importance of worker protection.

As a result, the company expects demand for PPE to remain high in the short to medium term and claims that it is ideally positioned to meet such demand. Looking ahead, Ansell plans to pursue a growth strategy through acquisitions and innovations in PPE which go well beyond its traditional passive protection role. Furthermore, it plans to improve its impact on the environment and reduce its production of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
