ProGARM, the UK’s specialist in arc flash protection, has announced the launch of two innovative products – arc flash dexterity gloves and a flame-resistant belt – designed to further improve the safety of workers at risk from an arc flash incident.

While those across the UK at risk of an arc flash are already encouraged to wear full PPE, workers crucially need to grasp and hold items well, meaning that ill-fitting arc flash resistant gloves are often disregarded due to their impracticality. And when it comes to the universal fit of safety garments, belts are often worn with the addition of a traditional belt to ensure a tighter fit, in turn making garments more comfortable.

None arc flash protective gloves and belts can burn and melt under the extreme heat of an arc flash, causing severe burns to the skin that could disable the casualty’s ability to work for a long while afterwards and leave them with life changing, if not fatal injuries.

“We frequently see PPE clothing being worn incorrectly because a lot of this clothing is bulky, rigid and impractical – it’s all too easy to wear some comfortable, warm gloves or an everyday belt, to roll sleeves up or undo a jacket, but all this seriously compromises the safety of an individual against an arc flash,” said Mark Lant, Technical Sales Manager at ProGARM.

“While many people think that outer protective clothing provides sufficient protection, in reality all garments need to be arc flash resistant, from the gloves and belt to the undergarments, otherwise the wearer is still at risk of injury.”

“As part of our ongoing commitment to safety and industry innovation, we’ve identified these key areas that pose a risk to workers and have created a comprehensive product range that offers the wearer the ultimate level of protection without obstructing day to day tasks.”

ProGARM’s arc flash dexterity gloves are coated with neoprene and natural rubber to ensure comfort, grip and flexibility. Thus, providing the wearer with A4/Cut 5 resistance, as well as heat and arc flash protection, making them suitable for a number of high-risk environments. The company’s new belt is made from inherently flame-resistant materials and features a buckle and end tip made from PA 6.6 – a material with extremely high temperature resistance.

Based in East Yorkshire, ProGARM’s key goal is to provide flame resistant safety clothing, such as its arc flash clothing range that offers the ultimate protection from the risks and hazards in which the wearers have to work.
