Invista’s Cordura brand is currently showcasing its most comprehensive military and tactical fabric portfolio to date at the Enforce Tac trade fair for security agencies currently running in Nuremberg, Germany (March 1-2).
With a focus on lightweight, breathable and quick dry uniform solutions, Cordura is introducing its new Nyco fabric which has four times more abrasion resistance and three-to-five times slower flame than polyester/cotton alternatives. It is based on Invista’s T420HT high tenacity nylon 6.6 staple fibre and is also being combined with cotton for a natural look and feel in a knitted fabric.
Also on display is Cordura TrueLock, based on high tenacity nylon 6.6 multi-filament fibre that is solution dyed, locking the colour in at the molten polymer extrusion level. TrueLock Fabric has excellent color-fastness, UV-fade and abrasion resistance, lot-to-lot colour consistency, extended UV strength stability, and long-lasting colour vibrancy. The solution dyeing process significantly reduces water and energy and the fabric is available in classic US Military and other tactical colours, with built-in IR signature management for improved concealment. End-uses include bags, load carriage, and reinforcements as well as use in fabrics, webbings, and trims.
Cordura re/cor fabric RN66 is meanwhile made from 100% pre-consumer fibre material that is GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified and can be produced in a full range of military spec colours.
Other fabrics established for this market by the brand include Cordura Combat Wool, Cordura Naturalle, combining technical performance with the look and feel of cotton, and Cordura Aft – a highly breathable knit construction engineered for enhanced abrasion and snagging resistance, that can be foam or felt laminated for outer shell footwear and breathable apparel applications.
“This year marks our brand’s 55-year anniversary, and from our early beginnings, Cordura fabrics built on nylon 6.6 fibre technologies have helped to revolutionise military gear and apparel,” said Cindy McNaull, Cordura’s business development director. “By offering durability, reliability and versatility, these fabrics have allowed soldiers to face a broad spectrum of combat conditions. The diverse technology components included in the Cordura fabric family such as high tenacity, abrasion resistance, comfort, near-infrared (NIR) signature management and enhanced flame spread protection have helped support a long history of effective solutions for the infantry soldier across the globe.”
