Wira Instrumentation, a specialist in design, manufacture and supply of laboratory testing equipment for natural and man-made fibres, has developed a range of testing instruments designed to comply with international standards for the performance of fabrics in specific safety-related scenarios.

The company will exhibit its expertise at the ITMA trade fair for textile machinery that starts this week. The portfolio includes the Wira Radiant Heat Tester, Wira Flame Heat Tester and Wira Contact Heat Tester, and other products.

Protective clothing

Protective clothing has become mandatory in a wide spectrum of application areas from industry to public safety. The provision of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is an expanding industry that embraces stringent performance specifications in the pursuit of safe working conditions for workers and the general public alike.

One of the most important areas of activity is the manufacture of protective clothing where key decisions in the design and manufacturing chain including raw materials, manufacturing techniques and garment design are critical factors that influence both performance and sustainability.

The company has developed a range of testing instruments designed to comply with international standards for the performance of fabrics in specific safety-related scenarios.

Sustainability and control

Manufacturers are increasingly looking to ensure customers of sustainability not only in their processing plants but in the life cycle of their products, for which testing plays a key role in the verification process.

Based in the UK, Wira offers a compressive range of testing instruments for textiles and nonwovens, as well as the largest range of instruments by a single manufacturer for the testing of floor coverings.

A new Wira Illumination device has been developed for the assessment of carpets to the latest ISO and European standards. The unit is designed around its own integral floor-standing frame, which incorporates the light source and rotating sample holder.
