Alexium is seeing increased revenues from commercial relationships related to the commercial roll out of its novel fire retardant FR nylon treatment and is also starting to see revenues from the US Air Force to further develop and evaluate Alexium’s Cleanshell CB repellency treatment. The company says it is additionally receiving revenues from early commercial demonstration trials.
“We are very pleased with our ability to book growing revenues while containing operating expenses and at the same time increasing patent protection of our proprietary intellectual property. We remain very optimistic regarding our opportunities in the coming year,” said Stefan Susta, COO and Executive Director of Alexium.
The Reactive Surface Treatment (RST) technology provider announced in September that it had been awarded a $200,000 contract by the US Air Force Research Laboratory to demonstrate its Cleanshell CB treatments for chemical and biological protection applications. The contract follows two other purchase orders by the US Army and is expected to further validate RST technology for defence applications.
Alexium holds proprietary patent applications for a process developed initially by the US Department of Defense, which allows for the surface modification and attachment of nano particles or multiple chemical functional groups to surfaces or substrates to provide functions such as water proofing, oil proofing, anti-microbial, non-stick and UV protection. Applications under development include but are not limited to textiles, paints, and packaging, glass and building materials.
In August this year the company announced it had successfully demonstrated its RST treatments for functionalizing temperature-sensitive fibres such as high-performance polyolefins to add new properties such as antimicrobial, adhesion promotion, and flame retardancy.
