The project is divided into ten work packages. Each focuses on a specific goal such as the development of industrial applications for recovered feedstocks or the assessment of the economic and environmental performance of newly developed processes.

After the successful launch in June, work package leaders will meet to evaluate the project’s progress. The project co-coordinator IOS (Institute for Environmental Protection and Sensors) is based in Slovenia and will host the meeting. RESYNTEX is led by the SOEX GROUP, a German company active in high quality collection, sorting and processing of used textiles at global level.

Pailak Mzikian, Head of Recycling and Sustainability at SOEX GROUP said: “With RESYNTEX, we want to develop and demonstrate a new strategic design for textile recycling throughout a complete value chain. The focus is on reprocessing blends and pure components of unwearable textile waste.”

Aleksandra Lobnik, R&D Manager at IOS said: “We look forward to bringing the project leaders together for our meeting in Slovenia. Also, we are excited to see the project’s first reports and findings.”

RESYNTEX joins the ranks of projects focusing on textile recycling innovations such as Worn Again, Re:newcell or Evrnu.

RESYNTEX is a research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 641942. It aims to develop innovative recycling processes and generate new secondary raw materials from textile waste. The project has 20 partners from across 10 different EU member states, which include industrial associations, businesses, SMEs and research institutes.
