Sabic is introducing two new short-glass fibre-reinforced polypropylene (PP) compounds offering enhanced performance and processing for demanding automotive under-hood, exterior and interior composite applications.
The new grades, G3430X and G3440X, surpass high-performing standard short-glass fibre materials in melt flow, tensile and flexural strength and flexural modulus providing new opportunities to raise the performance bar for automotive structural components such as brackets, seat structures and centre consoles.
In addition, thanks to their thin-wall capability, both materials can be used to design parts with lower mass and weight.
“We are setting new industry benchmarks for robust performance and thin-wall capabilities in short glass fibre polypropylene, providing critical advantages in the face of escalating automotive requirements,” said Abdullah Al-Otaibi, general manager, for ETP and Market Solutions at Sabic.
The G3430X grade has 30% short glass fibre content, and G3440X has 40% and both deliver a good balance of stiffness and impact for optimal performance in structural parts, with G3440X providing a higher degree of stiffness and greater density than G3430X. The compounds may also be candidates for the cost-effective replacement of long glass fibre PP in certain low-temperature applications.
Both Sabic PP compounds are available in standard black and natural and can also be custom coloured.
