IDTechEx, an independent market research company, has launched an international tradeshow and conference focused on wearable technologies with a particular emphasis on the critical enabling technologies that will shape the future of wearable devices.

The event will take place from 19-20 November 2014 in Santa Clara, CA, USA. The company forecasts that the wearable technologies market, as defined by its analysts, will grow to $70 billion in 2024.

Wearable technology

There has already been a first wave of conventional wearable technology, notably a big market for electronics on the ear and wrist.

The second wave is just beginning, the company reports. It consists of web-connected and advanced technology watches, glasses, headsets, smart skin patches, virtual reality headsets etc. A third wave is predicted to involve e-fibres in e-textiles.

Variety of sectors

The event has a two day programme consisting of over 50 speakers that cover the end user view from a variety of sectors such as health and fitness, sportswear, textiles and consumer electronic industries; enabling technologies such as low-power electronics, wireless power transfer, thin and flexible energy storage, smart textiles, and flexible and/or stretchable electronics; and gadget makers showcasing their latest exciting product development work.

Some of confirmed speakers include Heapsyion, The University of Tokyo, 4iii, adidas, Texas Instruments, HZO, Misfit, Clothing+, Proteus, sensing Tex, Ohmatex, Canatu, Imprint, Cetemmsa, EEON Technology, Seoul National University, electroZyme, and Flextronics X.

Co-location

Wearable Technology LIVE! will be co-located with a series of relevant and synergic tradeshows and conferences on Printed Electronics, Energy Harvesting and Storage, and the Internet of Things.

The attendees will have access to all these events. Each of them is a leading business-orientated event in its own right, attracting key players across the value chain from investors and end users to component and material suppliers. These well-established events attract more than 2,500 attendees and 200 exhibitors.

Dr Khasha Ghaffarzadeh, the Head of Consulting at IDTechEx, commented: “This co-location makes every sense as all these technologies are all parts of the same evolving ecosystem that will enable the future of wearable technologies. They all tightly fit together and are indeed all parts of the same puzzle that our event will help piece together.”
