RES, Resine Espanse Sintetiche , the Italian producer of laminated materials, will present its new collections for Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 at Première Vision that will take place in Paris, from 17-19 September.

The company will show its classic ‘forte’ together with a ‘hi-tech’ collection featuring innovative products. The neoprene, starring role of  RES collections, also acquires new properties.

Technically advanced

It is a functionalised and certified neoprene, designed  for activewear but can also be used  in other sectors thanks to its features. According to RES, it has a high water resistance, breathable and provides an excellent temperature control. At Première Vision, RES proposes the neoprene in different versions: laminated  with wool, fleece or jersey.

Another example of how the company aims to improve the wearer’s general well-being condition through advanced research, is a silver fabric which consists of a knitted nylon, coated with silver fibres . Besides having bacteriostatic features , the fabric said to create a barrier to electromagnetic waves.

Winning combination

RES collection is then completed  by many other proposals from the exceptional technical characteristics, deriving from the continuous research conducted by the company, that confers to  garments and accessories features of elastic resistance, bacteriostatic and  anti-static effect , stain-resistance, in addition to wear-resistance and resistance to atmospheric agents.

The possibilities of using these materials, technically very interesting, are entrusted to the imagination of designers and stylists that are able to enter the ‘fourth dimension’ of textiles and develop a winning combination between performance and style.

iCub

As a further proof of the attention that RES dedicates to cutting-edge research, guest of honour in the RES booth at Première Vision will be the humanoid robot designed by the Italian Institute of Technology within an European project.

The iCub has the lineaments of a three-year-old child and thanks to its 53 degrees of freedom it is able to move head, arms, legs  and hands. It is able to see objects, move them  and respond to simple  verbal commands. The Institute has already deployed about twenty specimens in laboratories located worldwide. The fields of application are multiple, from rehabilitation to neuroscience.

The skin

For the iCub, RES has created the ‘skin’ for the body, arms and hands, with particular attention to  fingertip. RES has studied  and expressly  developed  two special fabrics that meet the different performance of the body and the hands as was required by the Institute researchers.

The body is coated with a three-dimensional fabric constituted of a 3D air mesh,  laminated to a conductive silver fabric,  then covered by an outer fabric. The ‘skin’ developed for the iCub’s  fingertips is composed of three layers: a very thin layer of neoprene, which thickness is less than 1 mm, a second layer made of a conductive silver fabric and an outer fabric on top. Thanks to this special fabric expressly developed by RES, the iCub is able  to grab and drop objects.
