At the forthcoming Future of Electronics Reshaped USA conference and exhibition taking place in Boston from June 13-14, Saralon, based in Chemnitz, Germany, will showcase its stretchable Saral range of inks for printed electronics (PE).

“Among the emerging areas for our products are wearables and automotive applications because they support invisible electronics, eliminate the complexities of bulky electronics integrations and allow direct printing on lightweight substrates, leading to substantial weight reduction,” says Saralon managing director Steve Paschky. “Stretchable electronics easily flex to fit complex car interior geometries and also offer excellent conformity to the human body ideal for health monitoring wearables and medical patches.”

Saral inks include silver, carbon-based and non-conductive inks for different stretchable and bendable substrates.

Saral StretchSilver 500 is a solvent based stretchable conducting ink specifically designed for textiles and other rough surfaces.

When printed on polyester/elastane knitted fabrics and dried at 120°C for ten minutes, the initial sheet resistance is 25 mΩ/sq/25 μm. Larger silver particle sizes in this ink prevent its penetration into the porous surface, resulting in good conductivity preservation when stretched and after tension release.

Performance tests benchmarking Saral StretchSilver 500 against an alternative stretchable ink available on the market ,conducted by STFI, the independent textile research institution in Saxony, have indicated its superior properties in terms of stretchable conductivity and controllable printing.

Saral inks are suitable for all types of screen printing and other printing processes such as  flexographic pad and dispense and gravure printing.
