Around 40 companies will showcase their wearable devices and apps at the Wearable Technologies joint pavilion within Medica, the world’s biggest medical trade fair which takes place in Dusseldorf from November 13-16.

New technologies are changing the face of healthcare, with vital signs monitoring and wearable devices providing early warnings of potential health problems while capturing important data for medical records.

One in five Germans now use mobile services in relation to medical issues according to a survey published by health insurer IKK classic. More than 20% of respondents said they use apps on a smartphone or tablet to find out about illnesses or record health-related values such as blood pressure.

Notable companies taking part in the Wearable Technologies showcase in Hall 12 at Medica include DielTech, which specialises in customised adhesive solutions for the medical device industry, accompanying products through basic planning to initial concepts and mass production.

In close collaboration with healthcare partners, Elitac also develops wearables from the initial idea to successful production. Its speciality is linking electronics with textiles, with a focus on haptic feedback and sensor integration.

DuPont Liveo Healthcare Solutions offers a wide range of medical applications, from wearable patches and drug delivery devices to prosthetic elements. The company’s smart, soft skin conductive tape is proving transformative in this field.

Earable’s Frenz Brainband is an AI-powered wearable that enables faster and deeper sleep, with instant sleep assessments and customised audio sessions for cognitive behavioural therapy.

The main topics to be discussed at Medica this year include, mobile monitoring and patient care, wearables for chronic diseases and mobility problems, the treatment and prevention of injuries with rehabilitation and sports, fitness and wellness applications, in addition to materials, sensors and distribution.
