Toronto-based Myant is partnering with Osmotex, of Zurich, Switzerland to bring new technology to the rapidly evolving industry of textile computing.  The partnership will enable advancements in active membrane applications for wound care management.

Osmotex is the developer of Hydrobot and Steriliser technologies. Unlike traditional passive textiles and membranes, Hydrobot provides active electronically-driven moisture transport which works regardless of climatic conditions and offers practically unlimited transport at a fraction of the energy needed for evaporation. A very small electric voltage – less than 1 volt – is applied.

Early Hydrobot products entered the market at the end of 2018, after intensive development and testing in collaboration with textile industry partners, professional testers at the Salzburg University, and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Material Science and Technology (EMPA).

While the first applications were in outdoor clothing, healthcare and medical related applications are now under development. With Steriliser technology’s further ability to disinfect textiles from within, a textile can also keep wounds both dry and clean. In the future, advanced functions such as the controlled release of medication, filtering of bacteria/proteins and the monitoring of replacement needs for wound dressings will be enabled.

Myant creates textiles that can sense and react to biomarkers and environmental stimuli, transforming everyday clothing and other fabrics into bidirectional interfaces to the physiological systems of the body. The primary focus of Myant’s research, development and clinical studies in recent years has been cardiovascular disease monitoring and management through its Textile Computing  technologies and virtual clinic for remote patient monitoring (RPM). The plurality of biomarkers that can be captured via textile computing opens up new possibilities for innovation in the field of wound management and care.

Myant is working to decentralise health care services through accessible and digitised textile interfaces centred around the user, rather than around conventional healthcare facilities. The aim is to enable and empower users to utilise technology for health and healing.
