This season, Performance Days, a leading trade fair for functional fabrics, has selected two winners, awarding both the Performance Award and also the Eco Performance Award.

The winner of the Eco Performance Award is Schoeller with the article Alpaca/Merino. This sustainable blend of organic merino (70%) and fine alpaca (30%) comes undyed in its natural wool and alpaca colours. The various colours of the jacquard are created by the animals’ natural wool colouring. “This means that neither dyestuff nor chemicals are necessary for the production, and the product is recyclable and biodegradable, even in household compost,” the company explains.

Thanks to its knitted and felted design, the softshell felt is suitable for a wide range of applications, being windproof and water-repellent to a large extent, and at the same time very warm. With Schoeller’s EXP wool treatment process the merino wool can be treated chlorine-free. 100% no mulesing wool, spun in Europe.

For the Performance Award, Teijin Frontier has convinced with the article E245HCBF. The award-winning 3-layer laminate is the perfect combination of top function and sustainability. The mono-material made of polyester not only consists of recycled components but is also 100% recyclable. “Not only the upper fabric and the backing are made of polyester, but also the high-performance membrane,” the manufacturer explains.

With a water column of 20,000 mm and a breathability of 30,000 g/qm/24h, it meets the highest performance requirements. Thanks to the textured yarn made of 100% recycled polyester, the upper fabric can also be produced with a melange effect. The DWR is PFC-free.

Performance Days will take place from 13-14 November 2019 in Munich, kicking off the winter 2021-2022 season trends. For the first time, the Performance Forum will display sustainable fabrics exclusively. The fabrics exhibited at the Performance Forum will show a lively variety of colours, patterns, structures and surfaces and are suitable as fashion and sportswear items, as well as for top functional styles.
