At the forthcoming Heimtextil show in Frankfurt from January 10-13 2023, Fiberpartner, headquartered in Vejle, Denmark, will promote the advantages of PrimaLoft Bio for a wide variety of home textiles.

PrimaLoft Bio is an additive technology that enables polyester fibres and fabrics to biodegrade and return to materials found in nature at a highly accelerated rate, reducing the long-term impact of plastic waste in the environment and microplastic pollution in the oceans.

The fibres reach near complete biodegradation in under two years, while standard polyester remains almost completely intact. Independent testing has also shown that the soil left behind from the degradation process contains no plastic and remains perfectly suitable for plant growth.

The fibres biodegrades only by hydrolytic-degradation – the destruction of plastics by hydrolysis exposure to moisture under certain conditions – which results in the scission of molecular bonds.

UV degradation and OXO-degradability testing has confirmed the resistance of PrimaLoft Bio fibres to degrade and fragment into smaller pieces of plastic.

The process is fit for chemical recycling and works with both virgin and recycled PET.
