This report includes statistical data and analysis of the Japanese man-made fibre and technical textile industry under the following headings: man-made fibre production and consumption in Japan; man-made fibre consumption for technical textile applications in Japan; and production of technical textiles in Japan. It also includes an outlook for the Japanese technical textile industry and contains a wealth of recently released data for 2019. Overall, man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2019 to its lowest level on record and, in particular, there were declines in filament yarn production and staple fibre production. Furthermore, consumption of domestically produced fibres for industrial textile production in 2018/19 declined to its lowest level since 2009/10, and nonwoven fabric production fell to its lowest level since 2012.
