Polyamide manufacturer Domo Chemicals, headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, reports that 13% of the engineered materials it produced were made from circular and bio-based raw materials in 2023, and its aim is to reach 20% in 2030.
What these percentage figures mean in terms of tonnage is not disclosed in the company’s just-published Sustainability Report for 2023.
Domo has, however, now obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS (ISCC+) label for three of its ten production sites and over 300 of its PA6 products. This will enable the company to offer customers a wider range of circular and bio-based solutions working with partners including Martor, Mitsubishi Chemical and OMV.
In 2023, Domo was also awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal, improving its recognition from the world’s largest provider of corporate sustainability ratings, having gained a Silver Medal in 2022.
The company also achieved a 29% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from its 2019 baseline, on its way to a 2030 target of a 40% reduction, and upped its use of renewable electricity by 50% to reach 18% across its global operations.
“Our sustainability achievements in 2023 underscore unwavering commitment to creating a better future through innovation and collaboration,” said CEO Yves Bonte. “Every day, we strive to create new opportunities for our customers with polyamides.”
While Domo’s polyamides now serve a diverse range of markets, including primarily the automotive, electronics and building and construction industries, the company – which has over 2,000 employees and had 2023 sales of €1.4 billion – was initially founded in 1991 as a manufacturer of carpet filament.
Today it delivers high-quality polyamide 6 and 6.6 base resins for fibre extrusion, targeting industrial yarns as well as performance fibre applications. Its PA6 and PA6.6 granulates for BCF, POY and FDY spinning applications are supplied under the brand names Domamid, Nyleo and Stabamid.
