Recycled cotton producer Recover is featured in a new art exhibition, Rooted in Circularity by Spanish photographer Estela de Castro, which is being staged at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

In documenting activities at Recover, which is based in Banyeres de Mariola, Spain, the exhibition seeks to provide a look behind the scenes at one of the unseen sides of the fashion industry and engage in a discussion about how clothes are mede, where they come from and their impact on the world.

“These images are intended to be a wake-up call to the waste generated by the fashion industry and in turn, document a revolution, silent until now, in which Recover has been transforming waste into new raw materials in a sustainable way for more than 75 years,” de Castro said.

“This exhibition by an exceptional photographer elevates the production of recycled cotton fibre to the status of art, as well as capturing the passion and warmth of a 75-year-old family business,” added Anders Sjöblom, CEO at Recover. “Through these powerful images we also hope to spark a conversation on how recycling waste can give a new approach to fashion consumption, building on circularity.”

The exhibition follows Recover’s participation in the United Nations Fashion and Lifestyle Network (UNFLN) annual meeting, as part of its recently announced partnership.
