Texon will be officially unveil Texon Verde, a new bio-based and biodegradable, cellulose material, at Packaging Première in Milan from May 24-26.
The material can be used to create premium and luxury packaging, as well as fashion and homeware accessories and is made from sustainably sourced (FSC) cellulose wood pulp, with plant-based binders and natural pigments, to enable environmentally conscious designers to reduce the impact of their products without compromising quality or aesthetics.
Lightweight, tear resistant, wipeable and easy to handle, Texon Verde is ideally suited to protect high-end apparel and technology applications – including laptops. This material can also be used in other forms of packaging and in the production of must-have fashion and homeware accessories.
It contains up to 90% bio-based content, is free from any harmful substances and is manufactured at the company’s plant in Ripatransone in Italy using only eco-friendly mechanical and chemical treatments. It also biodegrades at the end of its life and is initially available in three earthy hues – Bianco, Caramello and Nero – and in 100cm x 150cm sheets or 150cm-wide rolls of any length.
“Texon Verde is a designer’s dream, delivering the high-end properties needed for premium and luxury applications, with a significantly lower environmental impact than conventional solutions available,” said Boyd Mulder, Group, sustainability and marketing director at Texon. “From its raw materials to its biodegradability, it enables manufacturers to unleash their creativity in an eco-friendly way. We’ve already seen lots of interest in this product and expect many more enquiries after Packaging Première.”
Texon’s latest sustainability report shows the company on track to meet the environmental targets it has set itself for 2025, when it aims to have reduced its carbon footprint by 50%, reduced its use of virgin materials by 50% and to have made 90% of its waste recyclable or reusable.
