13 Amp, a family-owned clothing manufacturer based in Leicester, UK, has installed a Klieverik Vertex calender press supplied by CMYUK.

A design-led company, 13 Amp produces women’s and children’s wear, specialising in jersey and soft separates supplied to fashion retailers including Sea Salt, Cotton Traders and Roman Originals, as well as supermarkets such as Morrisons for its Nutmeg brand.

The Vertex calender is being used to create samples of new women’s and children’s clothing lines and was purchased after being viewed in action at a CMYUK Open Day at the supplier’s Demonstration Centre in Shrewsbury.

13 Amp sample designs are either generated by the in-house design team or supplied by a specific customer. They are then printed onto paper using an in-house dye sublimation printer and the paper is subsequently transferred to a polyester-rich fabric base via the Vertex calender press and finished. Turnaround time from printing and constructing a sample garment takes a single day. Once a sample has been approved, volume production is carried out at partner manufacturing facilities in Morocco and Sri Lanka.

The Vertex is a compact calender press with a robust build featuring an oil-filled heat drum that facilitates consistent brilliant colour reproduction and high print definition. A belt tracking system also ensures error-free, right-first-time production.

With a working width of 1,650mm, it can handle both single piece and roll-to-roll materials and is able to cope with the widest range of fabrics and applications.

“I have friends in the business who swear by their Klieveriks,” said 13 Amp’s technical sourcing manager David Wilson. “The Vertex is easy to use, reliable and does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s smaller than the calender press that we’ve replaced, reducing our power usage that will help us make savings in the long run.”
