Record year for FET

Company’s portfolio now extends to more than 40 polymers in multifilament, monofilament and nonwoven formats.

Leading supplier of laboratory and pilot melt spinning systems Fibre Extrusion Technology (FET) of Leeds, UK, is celebrating a record year of sales and product innovation.

New projects during 2022 included a multifilament melt spinning line for Netherlands-based Senbis Polymer Innovations enabling the development of textile fibres from recycled polymers or biopolymers, and an FET-200LAB wet spinning system at the University of Manchester which will play a major part in advanced materials research in collaboration with the Henry Royce Institute.

An FET-103 monofilament line has also been supplied to Rheon Labs of London to help develop Rheon, a hyper viscoelastic fibre which displays high strain-rate sensitive properties.

“Sales revenues for 2022 have easily beaten our previous high and the research projects we have collaborated in have become increasingly challenging in terms of technical specifications,” said FET managing director, Richard Slack

The company is moving into 2023 with a record order book and its newly-opened Fibre Development Centre has been equipped with over £1.5 million in laboratory systems that will further enable fibre trials and product R&D. Three new polymer types were developed with clients in 2022 and several more are lined up in 2023, which is expected to bring the total of different polymer types processed on FET lines to more than 40 in multifilament, monofilament and nonwoven formats.

FET will be exhibiting at two major exhibitions in 2023 –INDEX 23, the nonwovens show in Geneva in April, and ITMA, the the world’s largest international textile machinery exhibition in Milan in June.
