This intensive one-day technical workshop on the latest manufacturing and processing techniques for high performance textiles, yarns and textile structures used for the production of composites, will be delivered by Dr Dieter Veit, Vice Director of the Institute for Textiltechnik der RWTH, Aachen University, Germany.

The workshop will be taking place on 17 July 2014 at the RMIT Brunswick Campus, Brunswick Victoria.

For every composite used in aerospace, transport, recreational vehicles, civil Infrastructure, mining and the oil and gas industries there is a fibre and textile substrate that does all the work.

Dieter will present on high performance fibres, yarns and textile structures used for the production of composites covering the essentials concerning material characteristics, latest manufacturing and processing techniques. He will also outline the textile preforming approach, composite processing as well as testing and simulation methods.

This full-day workshop will also cover 3D textiles which offer flexibility in fibre configuration, fibre continuity throughout the 3D fabric assembly and are used for structural integrity, shaping capability, extra lightweight and high performance, and much more. The main current applications of 3D fabrics are in composites made from textile preforms and in protective clothing. Weaving, knitting, braiding and nonwoven assembly are all used in 3D fabrics.
