Toray Advanced Composites, headquartered in Morgan Hill, California, is expanding its continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic composite materials portfolio through the acquisition of the assets, technology and intellectual property of Gordon Plastics, located in Englewood, Colorado.

The acquisition will expand Toray’s development, testing and production capacity for continuous fibre reinforced unidirectional tapes and enhances its ability to process higher melting temperature polymer systems.

The Gordon Plastics plant will operate as a satellite R&D and production facility as part of Toray Advanced Composites and its management and production team have joined Toray to support accelerated market growth.

“This is a significant expansion of our position in the development and supply of continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic composite materials, with a key focus on supporting emerging demand in sporting goods, oil and gas and industrial markets,” says Steve Cease, CTO and US managing director at Toray Advanced Composites. “The Gordon technology, capacity, expertise and fast response culture is a great addition to furthering our commitment to industrialising thermoplastic composites.”

The Englewood plant makes continuous fibre reinforced composite tapes made with many matrices, including Ultem PEI, PPS, PES, PESU, PA6, and PA11 reinforced with a wide range of glass and carbon fibres.

The Toray Advanced Composites sales and technical teams will support customers with any necessary information, including material samples, product availability, pricing, and technical data.

Additional information regarding product portfolio, capacity, and new developments can be found on Toray’s website.
