Imageco, a multi award-winning digital wide-format printing company, has completed its first Descor installation for the Leeds-based corrugated case manufacturer and supplier, Greyhound Box.

The business contacted Imageco as it wanted to brand its portacabin meeting room situated in its factory and create a more aesthetically pleasing setting for staff and visitors alike. Traditionally-speaking, the construction would involve boarding out the cabin interior and then applying a pasted wallcovering on top. However, after visiting the site, Imageco MD Nathan Swinson-Bullough realised that the Pongs Descor track system would be perfect for the job. The client was willing to oblige, and Imageco’s internal graphic designer was briefed to create the aesthetic for the job.

Descor is an innovative application for textile interiors that offers a smart alternative to conventional surface design. Available exclusively through Arkutex, the architectural surface textiles division of CMYUK, its subtle track system accommodates single piece stretch tension textiles to cover walls, ceilings, and panels of any size and shape, all of which, hide the substructure behind.

By using a unique spatula, the textile is pushed into the track profile and stretched drum-like, so it appears as a solid surface.  Negating any need to make good, this quick, clean, and easy to install solution integrates essential lighting, and HVAC services.  It does not interfere with any underlying architectural features, so it can be used for the interior refurbishment of notable buildings. Images can be changed easily and cost-effectively whilst retaining the track infrastructure – making this is a suitable solution for brand-immersive events.

Small and perfectly formed project

Both Nathan Swinson-Bullough and Imageco Operations Manager, Ed Hillam attended the Descor training programme in the autumn of last year organised by Arkutex. Taking place at the Pongs showroom in Dusseldorf, the visit was inspiring as it was instructional.

“It really opened my eyes to the creative possibilities of the Descor system. Sometimes we’ll come across walls that aren’t always good for wallpapers and need a lot of prep work, so this system is perfect for getting round that,” says Nathan.

Imageco opted to use a Pongs Descor textile for the printable stretch textile surfaces for this job and it used its EFI VUTEk GS3250 LX Pro UV LED printer to output the material which included both patterned and textured effects. New lighting was also installed to create a relaxed and welcoming feel.

“This is our first commercial job using Descor and it has already had enquiries off the back of it. I see this solution being used in a wide variety of spaces. We produce traditional wallcoverings for interiors but its good to have this as an option as well. The textiles that can be used with Descor also include acoustic and anti-bacterial solutions, so the potential of this product in sectors such as educational, heritage and hospitality is very interesting. It’s now a case of educating our clients to the potential that this type of application can bring,” concludes Nathan Swinson-Bullough.
