In particular, the report includes detailed information on domestic production and exports of textiles and clothing by type and destination. Textile and clothing exports from Egypt were up in 2019, reflecting increases in exports to many of Egypt's largest foreign markets during the year. Textiles and clothing exports from Turkey were also up, and clothing production increased for the tenth consecutive year.

In Morocco, however, textile and clothing exports were down--reflecting falls in exports to Algeria, the EU and the USA. Textile production in Morocco also declined, but clothing production increased. In Tunisia, meanwhile, textile and clothing exports declined, but exports of textiles alone increased.

During the first half of 2020, there were sharp falls in sales of Egyptian textiles and clothing in the EU and the US import markets, reflecting the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sales of Moroccan textiles and clothing in the EU and US import markets were also down sharply during this period, as was production by Tunisian textile, clothing and fur manufacturers. There was also a fall in textile and clothing exports from Turkey during January-July 2020, reflecting adverse trends in sales of Turkish textiles and clothing in the EU.
