Toray Advanced Composites is expanding its plant at Morgan Hill in California.

The new 6,800-square-metre expansion will support more production of both thermoset composites and Cetex thermoplastics as well as increasing laboratory capability in response to surging market demand for these materials.

This follows news announced earlier in July that Tokyo-headquartered Toray Industries plans to increase regular tow carbon fibre production capacity at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant of Toray Composite Materials America, and the Gumi plant of Toray Advanced Materials Korea in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea.

These investments will increase Toray Group’s annual capacity by over 20% to 35,000 metric tons by 2025.

“This addition to our Toray facilities in Morgan Hill, in concert with expansion at other announced carbon fibre and advanced composite business units around the globe will dramatically increase capacity for applications in aerospace, urban air mobility, defence, commercial, and industrial markets,” said Scott Unger, the company’s US managing director and global CTO.
