Printful is introducing 3D product models for e-commerce stores integrated with Shopify, as the first print-on-demand service to provide augmented reality (AR) assistance to its customers.

Shopify’s 3D product model feature helps merchants create more immersive shopping experiences, and according to Shopify data, adding 3D models to product catalogues has increased the online sales of companies using it by up to 250%.

“The 3D product model feature offers a full 360-degree view of the product in a set environment so buyers can get a better idea of how products will look in real life,” said Niks Evalds, Printful’s head of product. “Enabling shoppers to visualise products in a real-life setting helps them picture the sizes and design details of items. This increases buying confidence and creates an engaging shopping experience for consumers, allowing merchants to stand out from other sellers and streamline the shopping experience.”

The new feature is currently only available for stores integrated with Shopify, but Printful is planning to offer AR solutions across other platforms once similar features become available.

Printful had revenues of $289 million in 2021 and since its founding in 2013, has delivered 50 million items to customers worldwide. The company now has a team of over 1,700+ people across ten in-house fulfilment centres around the world.
