Elegance with YKK and Alcantara
A designer of fastening solutions YKK is showcasing its new collections at the Spring/Summer 2015 session of Modamont international trade fair that takes place from 18-20 February in Paris. Due to hit the stores in summer 2015, YKK has come up with a new twist on sophisticated zippers using a singular modern material that is both sensual and functional – Alcantara, for an upmarket, high-performance zipper, suitable for various applications. Alcantara is a mock suede type fabric, which is produced by combining an advanced spinning process (producing very low denier bi-component "islands in the sea" fibre) and chemical and textile production processes (needle punching, buffing, impregnation, extraction, finishing, dyeing, etc.) which interact with each other.

Elegance in performance
According to YKK, the Alcantara's qualities include softness, easy care, sturdiness and a variety of colours it comes in.
The YKK and Alcantara zipper is available in 21 colours. The pull tabs can all be galvanised or enamel-coated in tone-on-tone or contrasting hues. They are suitable for many applications: ready-to-wear, leather goods, smart sportswear, and footwear.
To put together this collection, YKK chose to work with the daintiest of Alcantara ranges teamed with the reverse coil zipper.
Carbon fibre effect
High-tech carbon fibre is used in many applications requiring high-level mechanical strength without piling on the weight.
It is lightweight and flexible yet incomparably sturdy. Popular with fabrics, it has also been teamed with ceramic, chrome and rhodium-plating. The carbon fibre look has taken the world of watchmaking, pens and men's accessories by storm, the company reports.
The zipper designed by YKK combines the genuine carbon look with water-repellence in the Aquaguard line. The sober style pull-tab's steering wheel shape evokes upmarket masculine appeal with a pure, elegant edge.
YKK Excella sequence
Excella has introduced a new product into its range, Excella Sequence. As the product of much fine-tuning, the Excella Sequence uses a leading-edge process to alternate teeth in a logical sequence.
As a result there are oblong bead-shaped teeth for extra emphasis. There is also an Excella Mix version made with several finishes, applied randomly for a charming effect.
From zippers to buttons
Adding to its collection of fastenings for clothing and accessories, YKK has also developed a range of metal sew-on buttons available in four sizes. According to the company, these are suitable for all sorts of applications due to a simple design with clean lines to provide plenty of versatility.
There are subtly domed shapes, and light or dark finishes, stepping up the style of this upmarket product. The palette mirrors that of the zippers, making for easy matches on garments and accessories.
