Medical/Hygiene

Leading medical product maker Medline Industries is planning to launch a range of Curad-branded orthopaedic soft goods featuring Celliant infrared responsive technology later this year.

“We have been working closely with Medline for the past six or seven years on validating the credentials of Celliant in various products and it’s exciting that the company is now ready to launch an extension of its market-leading Curad portfolio featuring our technology,” said Seth Casden, CEO and founder of Hologenix, the company behind Celliant. “The use of Celliant in orthopaedic soft goods makes perfect sense, because these are generally used on the joints, which are low-circulation areas of the body. Such products are also worn for extended periods of time, allowing Celliant to fully prove its effectiveness.”

Celliant is a proprietary blend of minerals that is embedded into fibres and yarns, or printed on fabrics, to capture and convert body heat into infrared energy reflecting it back into the body. This has been clinically demonstrated to increase local circulation and improve cellular oxygenation which results in a cascade of wellness benefits such as improved thermoregulation and faster recovery from physical exertion, as well as promoting restful sleep.

Awards

Already extensively used in sportswear and outdoor garments, in 2021 Hologenix partnered with Kelheim Fibres to launch Celliant Viscose as the first in-fibre infrared sustainable solution on the market, meeting a consumer demand for more environmentally friendly textiles. A further recent innovation has been a pure white version of Celliant, expanding potential applications to crisp white bed sheets and towels, athletic uniforms and jerseys, baby clothes, medical scrubs and more.

Both of these new products have gone on to claim awards – Celliant Viscose was a selected product in the Fibres and Insulations category of the ISPO Textrends Fall/Winter 2022/23, while Pure white Celliant was a finalist in the Sustainable Textile Innovation category of the Drapers Sustainable Fashion 2022 Awards as well as a top ten winner in the Fibres and Insulations category of the ISPO Textrends Fall/Winter 2023/24.
