Outdoor apparel brand Columbia Sportswear has posted record sales for 2021, boosted by outstanding sell-through rates, including the successful global launch of its Omni-Heat Infinity thermal-reflective insulation in September.
Sales for the brand, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, increased by 25% to $3,126.4 million from $2,501.6 million for 2020 and net income jumped by 228% to $354.1 million, compared to $108 million in 2020.
“This record financial performance reflects the strength of our brands and the tremendous efforts and resilience of our employees globally,” said chairman, president and CEO Tim Boyle. “As we begin 2022, we are acutely focused on unlocking the growth opportunities we see across the business while mitigating supply chain and inflationary pressures. Our powerful brand portfolio is well positioned to connect active people with their passions and capitalise on the popularity of outdoor activities.”
Omni-Heat Infinity, part of the company’s successful and award-winning Omni-Heat insulation platform, introduced a striking new gold metallic lining material in a pattern scientifically engineered to optimise warmth and breathability.
Inspired by the reflective technology used by NASA, the enhanced pattern of gold metallic dots reflects and retains natural body heat, delivering instant and lightweight warmth without compromising breathability or adding bulk. The patented technology became available in Autumn in more than 80 styles of jackets, boots and accessories, making it one of the largest technology launches in the company’s history.
Columbia’s anticipates a further16-18% net sales growth in 2022.
