Tanatex Chemicals supplies finishes for Korean Olympic athletes’ Zika-proof uniforms

Tanatex Chemicals, a developer of innovative textile processing solutions, has provided the mosquito-repellent finishes to the Olympic committee of South Korea for use in the Zika-proof uniforms.

The new uniforms are designed to protect athletes from the virus at this year's Rio Olympic games that take place from 5-21 August. Mosquito-repellent finishes engineered by Tanatex Chemicals were added to the uniforms, which will be worn by athletes during ceremonies and training.

Zika virus

The threat of the Zika virus has emerged as a major concern in the build-up to this year's Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.

The consequences of the Zika virus infection are miscarriages and babies born with small heads, who are likely to be severely mentally handicapped. According to the World Health Organisation, 33 countries had already been affected by the spread of this dangerous virus by February of this year, with Brazil and Colombia being the worst affected countries.
