The overall winner of the 2025 Filtrex Innovation Award will be announced during EDANA’s Filtrex conference which takes place in Vienna, Austria from March 25-26.

An independent panel of experts, including technical, marketing and nonwovens press professionals have selected the three finalists who are recognised as exceptional innovators in nonwoven-based filter media.

The lignin-saturated cellulose filter media developed by Gessner is redefining sustainable filtration by replacing fossil-based resins with renewable lignin, saving up to 100kg of crude oil per ton of material. Ideal for engine air, oil and fuel filters, it delivers top-tier performance with lower formaldehyde emissions during curing for high-efficiency filtration and a reduced carbon footprint, with optional flame retardancy.

NanoWave ESA, developed by Hollingsworth & Vose, is an all-synthetic 3D media designed for high-efficiency respiratory protection which is PFAS-free and safe for personal use. Stretchable, breathable and drapable for wearable filtration, it enables extended filter life with minimal processing, providing high-performance filtration without compromising comfort.

Finally, Johns Manville has developed a recycling process for transforming HVAC glass microfibre waste into compounded pellets for injection moulding to turn this waste into durable, second-life products.

This project prevents landfill waste, reduces CO2 emissions and supports a circular economy.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred nominee and the winner will be announced during a cocktail event at the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum.
