Report summary

This latest edition of our flagship series of reports contains statistical data, information and insight into the textile and apparel industries in the USA, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The report presents a wealth of information on: exports by destination; imports by source; and production. Also, it includes information on consumer expenditure and the retail market in the USA, and retail sales in Argentina. In the USA, there were increases in imports of textiles and clothing in terms of value and volume in 2017 and there was also an increase in US consumer expenditure on clothing and footwear.

Textile production and clothing production declined although exports of textiles and clothing rose in value terms after falling in the previous two years. In Argentina, textile production declined and imports of textiles and clothing increased. Meanwhile, exports of textiles and clothing declined although they shot up during January-September 2018. In Brazil, textile and clothing production increased in 2017 and so did textile and clothing exports.

Meanwhile, textile and clothing imports surged in 2017 and during January-October 2018, following sharp declines in 2015 and 2016. In Colombia, textile and clothing production declined in 2017 but textile and clothing exports edged up, and they were also up during January-October 2018. In Mexico, textile and clothing exports inched down in 2017 but they were up during January-September 2018. Furthermore, textile and clothing production increased in 2017 while textile and clothing imports rose only marginally.
