Andritz has acquired Dan-Web Machinery, the Denmark-headquartered supplier of technologies for the production of airlaid nonwovens.
Dan-Web engineers, designs and builds customised machines and turnkey plants for the production of airlaid nonwovens for baby diapers, fem care, incontinence products, wipes and other applications.
The acquisition expands the comprehensive Andritz Nonwovens technology portfolio, which already includes air-through bonding, needlepunch, spunlace, spunbond and wetlaid/Wetlace systems, as well as many additional machines for nonwovens converting. Andritz has been cooperating with Dan-Web in the supply of complete airlaid systems for many years.
The acquisition will also enable Andritz to participate in the drylaid cellulose process for the production of environmentally-friendly packaging and single-use products. Dan-Web is a leading supplier of hammer mills and forming head technologies for these pulp-based applications.
“After more than two decades of successful collaboration, we have now decided to move closer together, which will allow us to further develop certain processes much faster,” said Andreas Lukas, head of Andritz Nonwoven.
Recycling
At this week’s ITMA 2023 exhibition in Milan, Andritz also provided further details of its partnership with French companies Pellenc ST and Synergies TLC, in setting up a new industrial-scale business combining automated sorting and fibre recycling technology.
The new business, Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, will establish post-consumer textile value chains from sorting to manufacturing.
“This new company will process post-consumer textile waste to produce recycled fibres engineered for the spinning, nonwovens and composites sectors,” said Andritz vice-president Tobias Schäfer. “Starting operations soon, it will serve as a production line for Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, an R&D line for the three partners, and also as a test and demonstration centre for customers.”
