This report includes statistical data and analysis of the Japanese man-made fibre and technical textile industry under the following headings: man-made fibre production and consumption in Japan; man-made fibre consumption for technical textile applications in Japan; and production of technical textiles in Japan.

It also includes an outlook for the Japanese technical textile industry and contains a wealth of recently released data for 2020. Overall, man-made fibre production in Japan declined in 2020 to its lowest level on record following a long-term trend of falling production.

In particular, there were declines in filament yarn production and staple fibre production. Furthermore, consumption of domestically produced fibres for industrial textile production in 2020/21 declined to its lowest level for several years, and nonwoven fabric production fell to its lowest level since 2009.
